Three guns and over 40 rounds of ammo seized over last three days

Police in St Catherine North  say they have stepped up the pressure on criminals operating in the space and over the last three days have managed to seize a number of firearms and ammunition.

One of the firearms was seized after one man identified as a violence producer approached a group of officers with a gun in his hand and sought to intimidate the Jamaica Constabulary Force members, who were in plain clothes at the time.

The incident took place in Job Lane, the police said.

Police said the man opened fire on the officers and during a exchange of gunfire the man was cut down and the firearm recovered.

In another incident one man was shot and killed during another fierce gun battle, police said at the end of that stand off a firearm and a extension clip that had the capacity to hold 30 bullets along with an additional 10 that were in the firearm were seized.

The police recently held a press conference in the division and gave details of some of the operations.

Police also outlined that it was a rough time for officers in the division as they lost three Jamaica Constabulary Force members in the same division over the last three weeks.

One of the deaths was caused by violence , Police sergeant Patrick Mahoney was attacked and shot at his home.

He was rushed to hospital and after battling for his life he later succumbed to his injuries.

The  other two deaths were fatal collisions.
