The Fi We Children Foundation (FWCF) is calling on the relevant authorities, including the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), to conduct a prompt, impartial and transparent probe into an incident involving a female student and a female said to be a plain-clothes policewoman.
An aspect of the incident was captured on video and has gone viral on social media.
In another video uploaded by the student on TikTok, she alleged that she was instructed by an off-duty police officer to leave the JUTC bus.
According to the student’s account, she was directed to disembark from the bus despite having no money to pay another fare and without any apparent lawful or reasonable justification for being removed.
FWCF Consultant and Attorney-at-law Kayla Wright said if these allegations are accurate, they raise serious concerns regarding the treatment of children, the exercise of authority, and the duty of care owed to minors in public spaces.
