The government has instituted a ban on official overseas travel across the public sector ending March 31, next year.
A memorandum dated October 21, 2026 from the Cabinet secretary to the Financial Secretary and Permanent Secretaries says there will be limited exceptions.
The government explains that the unprecedented destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa has placed significant demands on Jamaica’s fiscal resources and public sector capacity .
It notes that the government’s ambitious programme of national reconstruction and recovery requires substantial financial, technical and administrative resources.
It states further that at this critical juncture it is imperative that government exercises the highest decree of fiscal discipline and prioritises expenditures.
