The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has vehemently denied claims made in a recent article in a local newspaper alleging a confidentiality breach in a murder investigation. The JCF labelled the allegations as "baseless" and "damaging."
The article, titled "Marked for Death – Gang Threatens Businessmanleak in murder case," asserted that the police had leaked a St. James businessman's CCTV footage of a crime scene and subsequently went viral on social media.
The JCF categorically refuted this claim, stating that the footage was widely circulated online before the police became aware of it. The constabulary emphasised that no individual had shared the video directly with them.
The JCF expressed deep concern over the potential negative impact of such irresponsible reporting on public trust and the force's ability to investigate crimes effectively. It also stressed the importance of a strong relationship between the public and law enforcement in combating crime.
The High Command called on the newspaper to retract the article and issue a formal apology, citing the serious implications of the misleading allegations. The JCF said they remain committed to transparency and collaboration with the media and the public.
