The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will make changes to its annual conference this year, opting instead to hold a private delegates’ conference in Montego Bay, St. James, on November 15.
The decision comes amidst the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Melissa, with the party saying it is mindful of the challenges still being faced by sections of the population.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, JLP Deputy Leader Desmond McKenzie said the conference will take a more business-like approach, with discussions focusing on key party and national issues, including the Party’s role in supporting the hurricane recovery effort.
Mr. McKenzie said the conference will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

He noted that during the private session, delegates will elect the party’s leader and deputy leaders.
Mr. Mckenzie said all incumbents, with the exception of William J.C. Hutchinson, are expected to be returned unopposed.
Hutchinson has opted not to seek re-election.
