The head of the country’s waste management entity says members of the public should not pay sanitation workers for the collection of garbage.
Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), Audley Gordon, says he is incensed about the widespread practice of some workers asking citizens for money to do their job.
Mr. Gordon says the sanitation workers’ salaries and benefits were improved under the reclassification exercise.
Mr. Gordon wants people who are asked for money to report the matter.
Gordon was speaking during Parliament’s Infrastructure and Physical Development Committee yesterday.
