The Ministry of Local Government yesterday handed over 10 tipper trucks to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).
This in an effort to assist with the clean up of debris across parishes ravaged by Hurricane Melissa.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Executive Director of the NSWMA, Audley Gordon said while tipper trucks are not typically in high demand during day-to-day operations, they have become essential following Hurricane Melissa.
Mr. Gordon said the NSWMA has removed about 15 thousand loads of debris since the passage of the hurricane.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness said the first targeted intervention will be in Black River in St. Elizabeth.
