Opposition calls on Gov’t to clarify Jamaica’s participation in Third-Country Nationals agreement with USA
The Opposition today called for clarity from the Government regarding its participation in a proposed Third-Country Nationals (TCN) agreement with the United States.
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang disclosed today that there have been discussions on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Jamaica and the United States to accept non-Jamaican nationals being removed from the U.S.
Opposition Spokesperson on Foreign, Regional and Diaspora Affairs, Senator Donna Scott-Mottley says the reports have generated significant public concern and raise important questions that the Government has a responsibility to answer.
Senator Scott-Mottley adds that the Government must also indicate what safeguards would be in place to protect Jamaica’s interests and whether or not any assessment has been undertaken of the financial, social, humanitarian, and security implications of participating in a Third-Country Nationals agreement.
