Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness is welcoming reports that Jamaica is one of the most peaceful places to be.

The reports were based on the country ranking number 1 most peaceful in the Caribbean on the 2026 Global Peace Index.

According to Yahoo News, the island was also named the number 3 most peaceful in North and Central America, and the 70th most peaceful place on the planet.

Speaking yesterday at the handing over ceremony of the Vineyard Town housing development, Dr. Holness reiterated that the project’s completion is among the results of the Government’s crime reduction strategy.

The development was hampered by criminality, including extortion, but the reduction in crime in Vineyard Town and nationally, led to its completion.

In the global peace rankings, Jamaica scored a 1.919 overall score, which is a slight decline from last year.

This caused the country to drop one spot in the rankings for 2026.

However, the country’s score kept it ahead of other Caribbean States like Trinidad and Tobago, which was ranked at 79, Dominican Republic at 89, Cuba at 109, and Haiti at 142.

The index is produced by the the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), which is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization.
