Police Federation seeking firm date for resumption of wage talks, after rejecting Govt’s 2% wage offer

The Jamaica Police Federation says its seeking from the Finance Ministry a firm date for the resumption of wage talks.

It has rejected the Government’s 2% wage offer and is demanding an urgent return to the negotiating table.

Police Federation Chairman Detective Sergeant Doris Stewart says the offer is inadequate and does not reflect the sacrifices, commitment and professionalism of rank and file members of the Constabulary.

According to the Federation, the proposed increase amounts to less than $200 per day for a police constable.

Detective Sergeant Stewart says the rank and file deserve better than any offer made to date.

The Federation says it has written to the Finance Ministry three times since July 20, each time requesting a return to negotiations.

It states that its now seeking a firm date for the resumption of talks.

The Federation is also pressing for a settlement of outstanding 2023 allowances, disclosure of a key document which informed the Government’s compensation review exercise and resolution of outstanding allowances including technical and detective allowances.

The Police Federation says it will contact the Ministry early this week to establish the reason for the delay and secure a date for negotiations to continue.

Following this it will determine its next steps and sensitise members.
