Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has reiterated that efficiency is not the enemy of accountability.

He made the statement as he continued to highlight Jamaica’s rigid bureaucratic systems which he says often result in delayed project implementation.

This time he cited as an example the rebuilding of the Troy bridge.

Speaking at the opening ceremony for the new bridge today, Dr. Holness again stressed that the government has systems in place to ensure accountability for infrastructure projects.

He said delays hurt the public as well as create unnecessary added costs.

He said the rigorous procedures involved in the Troy bridge project were unnecessary and that the government is taking steps to make the system more efficient.

Dr. Holness said the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NARRA) will achieve the objective of both efficiency and accountability.
