The National Works Agency says rehabilitation works along Seaview Drive in Lucea, Hanover are scheduled for completion in January 2027.
The timeline comes as flooding remains an ongoing concern for residents of Lucea, with heavy rainfall continuing to affect the town and disrupt livelihoods and businesses.
Communications Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the planned works are aimed at addressing longstanding drainage problems along Seaview Drive, where poor drainage has contributed to the deterioration of the roadway.
He explains that high tides forcing seawater into roadside drains, a high water table and damage to existing drainage infrastructure are also contributing factors.
The rehabilitation will involve raising approximately 395 metres of roadway by about 16 inches, alongside drainage improvements to reduce the impact of seawater flowing back onto the road.
The project will also include a new covered concrete drain and seven pipe culverts fitted with flaps to prevent seawater from backing up through the drainage system.
Mr. Shaw says some impact on the travelling public is expected, but efforts will be made to minimise disruption as work continues for the betterment of Hanover and the country at large.
