SBAJ warns another hurricane could set back Jamaica’s commercial progress

President of the Small Business Association of Jamaica, Garnett Reid, says if the island is hit by another hurricane this Atlantic season, it will set back the nation’s progress on commerce. 

Mr. Reid told IRIE FM News that several small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) have not yet recovered from Hurricane Melissa. 

He pointed out that the matter is further compounded by the challenges faced by some businesses, which had no electricity months after the hurricane.

Mr. Reid is urging business owners and operators to do what they can to prepare for the season. 

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season starts on June 1 and will continue until November 30.
