The main suspect in a case of rape at the College of Agriculture Science and Education (CASE) in Portland was killed during an alleged confrontation with police today.

Dead is Winston Humes.

Head of the Portland police Superintendent Ainsley McCarthy said he was also the suspect in other rape cases since 2021.

He said cops conducted an operation at a premises in Norwhich and it’s alleged that Humes threatened them with a machete.

Humes was being sought in relation to a rape incident at the college just over two weeks ago.

A female student was attacked after she exited a taxi and walked on campus.

She has been receiving counselling support.

That incident resulted in upset students staging a protest and calling for better security measures at the school.

Superintendent McCarthy said Humes was also linked to at least 2 previous rape cases at the college.

Those matters were before the court.

He noted that Portland recorded an increase in rape cases this year and that Humes was also the main suspect in many of the incidents.
