UHWI assures measures have been implemented to prevent repeat of payments to ‘ghost employees’ accounts
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the University Hospital of the West Indies, Eric Hosin, has sought to assure that measures have been implemented to prevent a repeat of payments to ‘ghost employees’ accounts.
During a recent meeting of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), it was revealed that money being paid out to such accounts was among internal issues brought to the attention of the hospital board, which served from November 2022 to December 2023.
At yesterday’s PAC meeting, Mr. Hosin said that $2 million was repaid following a ruling by the court.
He also noted that the board was satisfied that the sum was based on an internal audit report and an investigation by the police.
He said that to prevent a recurrence of the situation, the hospital has adopted a new human resource system.
