Four people are in custody and about $45 million worth of marijuana seized by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) following the interception of a vessel southwest of Long Bay Beach in Manchester yesterday.

Reports are that members of the JDF Coast Guard were conducting routine patrols along the country’s southern shores, when they detected a suspicious vessel near the Farquhar Beach area in Clarendon.

A coordinated pursuit ensued and resulted in the successful interception of the vessel.

A detailed search of the vessel revealed 38 knitted bags containing the marijuana and several 200-gallon fuel drums.

Four people were detained in connection with the seizure.

The individuals and the marijuana, were handed over to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division for processing.

JDF says this operation underscores its unwavering commitment, to protecting Jamaica’s blue economy, and maintaining the nation’s maritime security.
