Two men were fatally shot by police during an operation in Steerfield, near Golden Grove St. Ann, this morning.
The men are yet to be identified.
The incident occurred around 5:50 A.M.
According to police reports, a team from the area five fugitive apprehension team conducted a targeted operation at a premises in search of a suspect believed to be in possession of prohibited weapons and unauthorised ammunition.
On arrival at the location officers reportedly entered the house, where they encountered two armed men.
Police say both men pointed firearms at the officers and opened gunfire.
The police returned fire, hitting both men.
Reports are that while the police were assisting the wounded men to the vehicle to seek medical attention, angry residents blocked the road preventing the police from immediately transporting the men to the hospital.
Eventually, the wounded men were transported to hospital.
One shotgun and one pistol, along with several rounds of ammunition were reportedly seized at the scene.
