Attempts are being made to secure station bail for one of 4 taxi operators who were arrested following separate disputes with police officers in Constant Spring, Kingston.
A video of one of the incidents has gone viral on social media.
The arrests led to a protest by taxi operators today.
President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) Egeton Newman and President of the All Voice Taxi Association Lorraine Finnikin were at the police station up to late this afternoon.
Mr. Newman told Irie F M News that in the first incident, a dispute developed between cops and taxi drivers at the transportation centre.
It’s alleged that the taxi operators made unfavourable remarks, resulting in arrests.
Sometime later, while at the police station, 2 other taxi operators were also arrested.
Mr. Newman described the situation as unfortunate.
He said he and Mr. Finnikin intervened and were able to get station bail for 3 of the operators.
He said the protesting operators were asked to resume service.
