JHTA says hotel renovations should meet established standards to help reduce insurance costs

The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) says renovations on hotels impacted by Hurricane Melissa should be carried out at established standards to help reduce insurance costs.

JHTA President, Christopher Jarrett made the suggestion as he pointed to the challenges faced by hoteliers regarding insurance following the passage of the category 5 system last October.

He noted that if the tourism sector is serious about resilience, “building back” must not only be a popular mantra.

He stressed that the measures for resilience must be institutionalised.

He was speaking during yesterday’s Business and Consumer Confidence Indices presentation in Kingston.
