Two people wanted by authorities in the United States on Fraud-related charges were arrested in St. James on Wednesday during a pre-dawn police operation.

They have been identified as 31-year-old Nicki Gibbs, a nurse technician of Bronx, New York, USA and her husband, Swayne Barker, otherwise called “Black Boss” of Red Dirt, Flankers in St. James.

Police say the operation was carried out between 4:00 a.m. and 5:47 a.m. by members of the Anti-Lottery Scam Unit, the Jamaica Fugitive Apprehension Team and the St. James Operational Support Team in Red Dirt, St. James.

Both suspects were taken into custody and are being held pending an extradition hearing.

Head of the Fraud Squad and Financial Crimes Investigation Division Deputy Superintendent Horace Forbes says the arrests highlight continued cooperation between Jamaican law enforcement and international partners.

He says Jamaica will not serve as a safe haven for individuals involved in criminal activity, noting that efforts to track and apprehend fugitives continue.
