Opposition Spokesperson on Energy, Phillip Paulwell says restricting people to their homes with the aim of conserving fuel will lead to an increase in electricity consumption.

Yesterday, Energy Minister, Daryl Vaz indicated that work from home arrangements and restricted movements are among measures the Government could implement to cushion the impacts of rising global oil prices.

Mr. Vaz explained that due to the war in the Middle East, Jamaica continues to experience weekly increases in fuel prices.

While agreeing that fuel conservation is essential, Mr. Paulwell suggested that focusing on public education is a better approach.

He noted that some people are already facing challenges with their electricity bills, and this policy, if implemented, will be an additional burden.
