PM Holnes says Western Children’s Hospital among institutions to be named in honour of former PM Portia Simpson-Miller
The legacy of former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will reflect in 3 major landmarks; one of the Labour Ministry buildings in Kingston, the Western Children’s Hospital in St. James and the overpass in Three Miles.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness gave the update today while at the renaming ceremony for the Labour Ministry building located at North Street.
Dr. Holness said the renaming of the building in Kingston is a proper tribute to Mrs. Simpson Miller whose work in that ministry supported families, created employment opportunities both locally and overseas and assisted with the education of children.
He noted that while there have been recent calls the Government had long intended to name the Western Children’s Hospital in Simpson Miller’s honour.
Dr. Holness said the matter was discussed with her family.
He also acknowledged that with the redevelopment of Three Miles, some residents expressed concern about the Portia Simpson Miller Square.
Dr. Holness assured that when the project is completed the area will be dedicated to the former Prime Minister.
