JPS probes what triggered cascading effect that caused island wide black out
This content originally appeared on Jamaica News.
The Jamaica Public Service is investigating what triggered a cascading effect on the grid, causing yesterday’s island wide power outage.
Electricity has been restored to all customers affected by the black out.
JPS President / Chief Executive Officer Hugh Grant gave the update while speaking at a press briefing this afternoon.
He noted that a lightning strike impacted some critical facilities in the Corporate Area but this should not have rippled throughout the entire grid.
Grant said steps are being taken to ensure there is no recurrence of yesterday’s incident.
He also noted that issues unrelated to the black out have left some other customers without power.
