Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Security Dr. Dayton Campbell has stated that farmers engaging in illegal transport of livestock is a direct result of the shortage of animal tags.
There has been longstanding concerns by farmers and butchers regarding tag availability and access to tagging services.
Making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate yesterday, Dr. Campbell called for the improvement of the livestock identification system.
In the meantime, the Agriculture Spokesman underscored the need for greater response to praedial larceny against farmers.
