Jamaicans in the US call on children, elderly to stay hydrated amid higher-than-normal temperature projections for the island
With Jamaica projected to experience higher-than-normal temperatures this summer, nationals living in the United States are appealing to citizens back home, especially children and the elderly, to protect themselves.
Jamaicans living in the U.S. are among those grappling with an extreme heat wave, which has caused major health emergencies, severe agricultural damage, the cancellation of America’s Independence Day parade, and left over 182,000 homes without power.
Despite their struggles with the heat, they hope that people in Jamaica are doing what they can to stay hydrated.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, one Jamaican man, who resides in Florida, says children and the elderly should not take their health and safety for granted.
His appeal for persons to remain indoors was amplified by one Jamaican woman who lives in Long Island, New York.
She says the extreme heat in her U.S. community has got her worried about her elderly family members back home.
