JCSA welcomes attempts by Health Ministry to establish accountability framework

The Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) is welcoming attempts by the Health and Wellness Ministry to establish an accountability framework for the health sector.

However, the association says more discussions are needed on how the system will be implemented.

The accountability framework forms part of the Ministry’s broader programme to strengthen governance across the public health system by improving oversight, enhancing operational efficiency, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and promoting
greater accountability at every level.

The Health Ministry continued its series of consultations yesterday as it met with executive members of the JCSA.

In a post on social media platform X, Portfolio Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said that coming out of the meeting, all stakeholders agreed that they have a role to play in improving service delivery to patients and staff welfare.

Speaking with Irie FM News last evening, Second Vice-President of the JCSA, Kelvin Thomas, hailed the framework as a good initiative.

He said the association is committed to having further dialogue on the framework.

Mr. Thomas shared that, based on discussions, the proposed framework is not intended to take punitive action against any worker.
