PNP confirms Councillor Tanya Lee Williams as official member

The People’s National Party (PNP) has confirmed that Councillor Tanya Lee Williams is now a member of the party.

Williams announced yesterday that she is switching affiliation from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to the PNP.

She is the Councillor for the May Pen North Division in the Clarendon Municipal Corporation.

Williams announced her decision to cross the floor at yesterday’s council meeting.

PNP President Mark Golding welcomed Williams, stating that he enjoyed a meeting with her last week.

Golding noted that the PNP puts people first, and that Williams’ courage and commitment are appreciated.

Last evening, the JLP said it activated its processes to expel Williams, pointing out that the Secretariat did not get a formal resignation letter.

Copies of two letters drafted by Williams, dated October 8, were shared by the PNP yesterday.

One is addressed to JLP General Secretary, Dr. Horace Chang, while the other is to Chief Executive Officer at the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, Rowhan Blake.

In the letters, Williams outlined her reasons for switching party affiliation and pledged continued service to the residents of the division.
