Energy Ministry to re-purpose $USD2M for oil exploration impacts to aid fishers affected by hurricane Melissa

Two million US dollars initially meant for oil exploration impacts, will be used instead to assist fishers affected by hurricane Melissa.
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz made the announcement, while speaking at the official launch of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) emergency mobile power generation unit in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth on Wednesday.
Mr. Vaz noted that the Fishers Ministry has submitted information on damage sustained in the sector and the support programme will be finalised by next month.
The minister stressed that the support will help the affected fishers rebuild their livelihoods.
