Sixty-three-year-old Richard Henry, a farmer of Irwin Meadows, St James, has been charged with negligent loss of a firearm and failure to properly store a firearm following an incident in Hanover on Monday, December 9.

Reports from the Lucea police are that about 8:30 am, a 13-year-old boy was being searched at his school when a Glock 19 pistol with a magazine containing eleven 9mm rounds of ammunition was found in his bag.

The police were summoned and following investigations, it was revealed that the firearm belonged to Henry, who is the child’s father.

Henry was subsequently interviewed, and reportedly told detectives that he mistakenly placed the firearm in his son’s bag.

He was charged after a caution statement in the presence of his attorney.

His court date is being finalised.
