Jamaica’s Governor General Sir Patrick Allen has successfully undergone elective spinal surgery and is now recovering, the Office of the Governor-General announced on Thursday.

Sir Patrick went into surgery on Monday to alleviate the debilitating and painful effects of a spinal condition.

He expressed his deepest gratitude to the University Hospital of the West Indies and Tony Thwaites Wing staff, especially the surgical team led by Dr Carl Bruce, who diligently provided medical care to him.

The governor general also extended gratitude to the Jamaican people for their prayers, well wishes and support.

“Your kindness and encouragement have been a great source of strength,” the King’s House statement said.

As he continues to recover, Sir Patrick looks forward to resume his duties and continue his service to the nation, the statement added.
