The Jamaica Defence Force JDF says it is cooperating fully with the police to ensure that the case relating to the recent arrest and charge of a soldier is thoroughly and transparently addressed.
30-year-old Rushane Brown, otherwise called ‘Shane’, of Comfort Hall Manchester has been charged in connection with the discharge of a weapon on Christmas day.
This follows an incident at an establishment in Roses Valley District, St. Elizabeth .
Reports from the Balaclava police are that at about 5:15 A.M., Brown was accosted by an off duty police officer, after he was observed discharging two rounds into the air -from a pistol.
Brown was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place.
In a statement, the JDF says it does not condone unlawful, reckless, or irresponsible behaviour by any of its members, whether on or off duty.
It adds that the actions allegedly attributed to the service member are inconsistent with the values, standards, and professional conduct expected of all JDF service members .
The JDF states that it remains committed to the highest standards of discipline, accountability, and service to Jamaicans.
The army is assuring the public that incidents of this nature are treated with the utmost seriousness.
