Julien Alfred wins 100m Diamond Trophy, edges out Dina Asher-Smith

Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred capped a historic season with another big win, taking the Diamond Trophy in the short sprint on the first day of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels on Friday.

The St Lucian sprinter capitalized on her strong start and was pushed all the way by training partner Dina Asher-Smith.

Alfred edged ahead in the closing stages to cross the line first in 10.88 (0.2m/s), ahead of the Briton (10.92). Marie-Josée Ta Lou of Ivory Coast finished third in 11.05. World champion Sha’Carri Richardson was never in contention and faded to eighth in 11.23.
