Male student of Ocho Rios High School dead while another is in police custody, following altercation at institution yesterday

A male student of the Ocho Rios High School in St. Ann is dead while another is in police custody, following an altercation at the institution yesterday.

Dead is 16-year-old Devonie Shearer of Tae Street, Ocho Rios.

Reports are that on Tuesday March 3, the boys got into a fight while in the town.

Further reports are that while at school yesterday, Shearer was standing in the classroom when the other boy approached from behind, and hit him on the head with a metal chair.

Shearer fell and became unconscious.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The alleged attacker, an 18-year-old, fled the school after the incident.

He was later apprehended by the police.
