The Government of Jamaica is undertaking a $30.6 million road rehabilitation project to restore reliable access to Windsor Forest and Hagley Gap in St Thomas.
Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic, Growth and Job Creation with responsibility for Works, Robert Morgan, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, stating, “This investment in St Thomas demonstrates the government’s continued dedication to enhancing rural infrastructure and bridging the gap for communities island-wide. Reliable road access is a convenience and a luxury everyone deserves to have. Projects like these enable residents to build stronger connections, seize new opportunities, and drive Jamaica’s progress forward.”
The scope of work will include excavating damaged areas, constructing new drainage features and recreating the road embankment through the construction of the retaining walls.
The project will also see a new base on the targeted sections of the corridors, followed by asphaltic concrete works.
Originally scheduled to commence on October 28, 2024, the project faced a brief delay due to adverse weather conditions. It is, however, now underway and is expected to be completed within six months.
