Written byPatrice Walters

Opposition Leader Mark Golding has called for an inquiry into how land rights are enforced against vulnerable persons.

His comments follow the demolition of homes in Cooper’s Pen, Trelawny, on Tuesday, resulting in the displacement of several families.

The exercise was reportedly undertaken by the private owner of the property following a decades-long court battle.

Mr. Golding visited the community yesterday and met with the affected residents.

He said a mechanism that balances the rights of the property owners and vulnerable residents needs to be implemented.

The opposition leader noted that the rights of residents who claim property via adverse possession should be protected.
