At least two of the parishes hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa are gearing up for customary Grand Market celebrations today.
This follows the widespread devastation mainly across western parishes by the category 5 system on October 28.
Among those hardest hit is St. Elizabeth
Mayor of Black River Richard Solomon underscored that despite the damage caused by the storm, grand market activities will take place in Junction and Santa Cruz.
As for St. James, Mayor of Montego-Bay Richard Vernon said that the municipal corporation has been facilitating 14 days of grand market, to boost the parish’s economy.
In central Jamaica, Mayor of May Pen Joel Williams said a walk through with the necessary personnel was conducted to ensure order in the townships expected to host grand market activities.
Meantime, on the north-coast, Mayor of St Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis said Brown’s Town, which leads the parish in the yearly celebrations, has been outfitted for full facilitation.
