Mayor of Spanish Town in St. Catherine, Norman Scott, says he will be introducing a formal advertising policy and an Ethics Committee to oversee unregulated marketing within the Municipality.

His announcement follows the removal of a controversial billboard in Rockfort, Kingston, at the weekend.

Citizens posted several videos to social media decrying what they say is the inappropriateness and lewdness of the billboard.

The billboard was subsequently removed, but Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby said this was not due to public outcry but because of the placement and lack of approval.

Addressing the matter at today’s meeting of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, Mayor Scott said the new advertising policy will serve to protect the Municipality’s integrity.

Under the policy, individuals and businesses will be required to submit their advertisements for review before publication.

The Mayor said the policy should be implemented by July.
