The Mouttet Mile is a Jamaican 'Grade 1' stakes race which features a one-mile horse race boasting the richest purse in the English-speaking Caribbean.
This year’s purse is valued at US$250k, and the race will include the top three-year-old native-bred and imported thoroughbreds. Six of 16 spaces are reserved for international entrants.
Race Day includes an exclusive, luxe infield viewing deck and lounge activation for VIPs and event sponsors.
The prestigious Race Day is set to include various sponsor activations in the stands and top local and international sports news coverage.
Races are expected to attract not just locals but visitors from Trinidad and the United States. So, as we typically do in Jamaica, a spectacle of fashion is expected for the Mouttet Mile. Style expectations are high.
The ‘Wild West Wear’ theme is arguably the campiest version of the Western style. One achieves the look by applying a ‘more is more’ approach: More embellishment, more dramatic accessories, tighter corsets, more elaborate jewellery, and more layers!
Fear not! You want to be inspired by the genre to find your fit, not overwhelmed by all the options available.
You also want to remain comfortable as the races are often a long day of schmoozing, horserace betting, and fanfare *cues bugle call*.

Where style is concerned, let’s start with the essentials:
A cowboy hat (any style will do, as long as it matches the rest of your fit)
A vest
A button-up (flannel, print, or any plain oxford)
A skirt, denim cutoff shorts, or both (paired together)
Cowboy boots
An intricate belt with a statement belt buckle
Chains and accessories (a choker, a long pendant necklace, a cuff on either or both wrists)
This one's for the brave and eccentric folk. We reckon it involves a lot of accessorising.
Other key style notes include:
Fringe vest, fringe skirt, shirt with fringe, hat with fringe, chaps with fringe — you get the point.
More movement-friendly accessories such as a three-sister skirt or embroidered vests.
Anything leather is as good as gold!
A corset is as essential for women as chaps are for men.
