Over $300 million has been diverted from the energy poverty reduction project and used to assist with repairs and electrical certification for homes in St Elizabeth, which were damaged during Hurricane Melissa.

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz gave the update while speaking at the launch of the Jamaica Public Service emergency mobile power generation unit, in Treasure Beach, recently.

The minister stressed that the aim is to ensure that homes are able to safely reconnect to power supply, and avoid possible electrical fires.
