Prime Minister Andrew Holness has commended the Hanover Police for their successful efforts, in reducing the number of murders in the parish.    Since the start of the year, Hanover has recorded a reduction of 11 per cent when compared with the figures for the same period last year, according to police figures.    Holness pointed to the nomadic nature of criminal gangs, stating that they should not be allowed to settle and find haven anywhere.    “I am very happy to see that you have strategies in place to manage the displacement that happens from the other two parishes [Westmoreland and St James] and to keep whatever gang activities that are resident here under control,” Holness said when he visited the parish last week.

He noted that the reduction in the murders shows not only a resoluteness in the fight against crime but also the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.    “By tackling criminal gangs and promoting community safety, we aim to create a Jamaica where peace, security, and prosperity prevail for all,” he said.    Holness added that the police high command is working assiduously to achieve similar results or better in neighbouring St James and Westmoreland, while noting that he is encouraged that the challenges, based on the numbers, have not been undermining efforts in Hanover.

Head of the Hanover Police, Superintendent Andrew Nish, said the police will stay on top of the crime situation, by putting important and workable strategies in place.

“We have other challenges in terms of different locations but in the Hanover division, I promise you sir that we will be able to ensure that we have public safety and security at our interest at all times,” Nish said.
