Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has called on the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) to step up public education on dealing with waste .

He cites as an example, how citizens deal with household and travel waste.

Dr. Holness notes, among other things, that household waste is not separated.

He also highlights what he describes as the shameful disposal of garbage along roadways, citing the need for a strong public education campaign to address littering.

He says such a campaign should involve children.

The Prime Minister notes that discussions continue to implement a ticketing system for improper disposal of waste.

He says public education will be a critical role for the agency next year.
