PM Holness expresses confidence that Jamaica will recover quickly from Hurricane Melissa
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness says he is confident that Jamaica will recover quickly from Hurricane Melissa.
He explains that the Government’s strategy for restoration, lies heavily on the restoration of electricity.
The Prime Minister is also defending the loan to Jamaica Public Service of US$150 million to facilitate assistance and equipment from overseas to speed up the process.
Power has been restored to 90 percent of JPS customers islandwide and close to 70 percent of the hardest hit parishes.
Dr Holness points out that records show that Jamaica’s performance is above its peers and very close to first world standards.
He says the cabinet has begun discussions with the JPS on the placing of some power lines underground.
He adds that every crisis provides an opportunity.
He reiterates the need to build resilience.
Dr Holness says the country will be built forward and better than it was.
