Sentencing of former MP Jolyan Silvera to be livestreamed – Justice Sykes
Chief Justice Bryan Sykes says the sentencing of former Member of Parliament Jolyan Silvera will be livestreamed.
The Chief Justice made the disclosure during an engagement with the media this morning.
Mr. Silvera was arrested and charged with the 2023 murder of his wife, Melissa.
Earlier this month, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter, which was accepted by the court.
He is to be sentenced next Friday, March 6.
Mr. Silvera’s trial was held in-camera, meaning members of the public, including the media, were barred from observing the proceedings.
During this morning’s engagement, the Chief Justice was asked what would be obtained for the sentencing.
In response, Justice Sykes said the process has passed for the public to be barred and that the sentencing will be made public.
