Education Ministry declares that no school allowed to suspend lunch distribution under path, following action by one school

The Education Ministry has declared that no school is allowed to suspend lunches distributed under the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).

Chief Education Officer, Terry-Ann Thomas-Gayle, made the comment while fielding questions about the matter during post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House yesterday.

Reports emerged this week that a St. Catherine-based school had suspended its PATH lunch programme, citing financial constraints.

Thomas-Gayle noted that she did not receive a report about the problem and that she was made aware of it through the media.

She said the school’s move to suspend the programme is unfortunate and that PATH funds have now been sent to all schools.

Mrs. Thomas-Gayle maintained that the necessary arrangements should be made to feed students.

She also noted that the region under which the school operates, has launched an investigation into the matter.
