Public advised to exercise caution in using Wag Water River after tanker transporting diesel fuel overturned into ravine
The public is being advised to exercise caution in using the wag water river, after a tanker transporting diesel fuel overturned into the ravine.
The incident occurred at about 2 this morning in the vicinity of Brandon Hill, St. Andrew along the Junction main road.
The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) says based on its investigation, some amount of fuel has entered the wag water river as an oil sheen was observed in the proximity of the incident.
NEPA says it will continue to assess the situation to determine the full extent of the impact and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, the fire department responded and has been on the scene working to secure the fuel and ensure public safety.
Head of the St. Andrew North Police, Superintendent Randy Sweeney says the truck is still in the ditch, and efforts are being made to get a suitable crane to remove it.
He is urging motorists to be careful when traversing the junction main road.
Superintendent Sweeney says the public will be notified when the truck is being removed so they can take alternative routes.
