Policemen “relieved and elated” after being acquitted of murder charges arising from Shrewsbury, Westmoreland incident 13 years ago

“Relieved and elated.”

That is the reaction of two police officers, who were acquitted today of murder charges after a four-week trial in the Supreme Court in Kingston.

Constables Damane Campbell and Kenroy Hinds were each charged with three counts of murder in relation to the shooting of three men, which sparked widespread community unrest in Shrewsbury, Westmoreland, some 13 years ago.

The deceased were identified as brothers, Andrew and Trystan Brydson, as well as their cousin, Kingsley Green.

Reports are that in March 2013, the officers, acting on information, went to the location where a gunfight ensued.

The men were found dead, and two firearms were reportedly recovered from the scene.

Speaking with IRIE FM News this afternoon, Peter Champagnie, who represented Campbell, said Justice Leighton Pusey, who presided over the trial, ruled that the no-case submissions made on behalf of the cops should be upheld.
