Opposition Spokesperson on Transport, Mikael Phillips says the Jamaican Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is in its most pathetic state since it was established.
Mr. Phillips made the statement during his Sectoral Debate presentation in Parliament yesterday.
He accused the Government of driving the state-owned bus company into a deeper financial crisis, despite the acquisition of hundreds of new buses.
According to Mr. Phillips over the last decade the JUTC has incurred cumulative losses of more than $100 billion.
Mr. Phillips noted that a multi-billion-dollar loss is projected for the JUTC this fiscal year.
He said the JUTC’s fleet should be at over 400 buses; however, its daily operational dispatch remains below 300.
