More calls are being made for the funeral sector to be properly regulated amid growing concerns that unregulated operators are entering the industry.
Councillor for the Bellefield Division in Manchester, Mario Mitchell says lack of oversight is fuelling continued breaches of proper procedures by some funeral homes.
Mr. Mitchell pointed to an incident last month in which a family sought to have an autopsy conducted and after experiencing multiple delays in retrieving the body, it was revealed that the funeral home had already embalmed it.
He argues that such actions highlight the urgent need for clear rules and enforcement within the sector.
