JFJ urges persons with information on fatal shooting of Lotoya Bulgin to come forward and help the investigation
Advocacy Group, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is urging persons with information on the fatal shooting of Lotoya Bulgin in Granville, St. James to come forward and help the investigation.
Ms. Bulgin, more popularly known as “Buju”, was shot and killed by a police officer Sunday afternoon.
The cop has been removed from frontline duty.
The incident which was captured on a surveillance camera, has gone viral and has reignited public discussions about fatal shootings by members of the security forces and the need for body worn cameras on police operations.
Investigations are being undertaken by The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.
Yesterday, INDECOM called for witnesses, including persons who were travelling in the vehicle being driven by Ms. Bulgin to contact the Commission.
JFJ’s Executive Director, Mickel Jackson, echoed the call, noting that Ms. Bulgin’s death is another indication of the alarming rate of police fatal shootings in the country.
