PPV operators expecting favourable decision on 16% fare increase at Transport Ministry’s press conference this morning

Public passenger vehicle operators are expecting that a press conference hosted by the Transport Ministry this morning will reveal a favourable update on the remaining 16% fare increase.
The operators have been agitated and have threatened industrial action over the delay in implementing the increase, which was due in 2024.
The Government cited varying economic shocks as the reason.
The 16% represents the second phase of the 35% fare increase approved by the Government in 2023.
19% was implemented that year.
A discussion on the Cabinet submission for the fare increase was held yesterday, and a decision on whether the increase will be implemented at once or in stages is expected today.
